In its annual roundup of top predictions for the future of the technology industry in 2024 and beyond, CCS Insight made several predictions about what lies ahead for AI.
The main forecast has for 2024 is that Gen AI “gets a cold shower in 2024” as the reality of the cost, risk and complexity involved, “replaces the hype” surrounding the tech.
SCHIZOPHRENIA TOOLS
Scientists at the UCL Institute for Neurology have developed new tools, based on AI language models, that can characterize subtle signatures in the speech of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.
They tested whether the words people spontaneously recalled could be predicted by the AI model, and whether this predictability was reduced in patients with schizophrenia.
They found that the answers given by control participants were indeed more predictable by the AI model than those generated by people with schizophrenia,

GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT
A new poll commissioned by think tank, the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator, asked Americans whether the federal government should develop its own AI resources and staff or outsource to private consulting firms and big tech companies.
Seventy-seven percent of respondents, including both Democrats and Republicans, responded that they support creating a dedicated team of government technologists to advise agencies and regulators. 62 percent of respondents preferred that the government hire its own AI experts over costly private consultants.

Microsoft is making significant strides in both the artificial intelligence and gaming sectors, with recent developments highlighting the company's strategic moves to enhance its technological capabilities and expand its market presence.
Gearing up to unveil its first-ever AI chip is seen as a strategic step to reduce the company's dependence on Nvidia and bolster its AI capabilities.
