Good Morning from the Promptbox Team!
Last week, we had Tom Hanks deep faked for a dental ad, and now we have 'AI Obama,' defending the suspicious death of his personal Chef on TikTok - who happened to be writing a tell-all book at the time his naked body was fished from a Martha's Vineyard lake.
Nothing to see here.
Happy Thursday. Let's get it.

In a recent TikTok video, a voice strikingly similar to former President Barack Obama defended against new conspiracy theories surrounding the death of his ex-chef. (and there are plenty)
Not surprisingly, this voice was not Obama's but a clone developed by advanced, widely-available A.I. tools.
This incident is yet another example in the emerging ‘threat’ posed by voice-cloning A.I. on social media platforms.
Key Facts:
Surging Misinformation: The technology behind voice replication has become increasingly popular and readily available, especially after companies like ElevenLabs introduced new voice-cloning tools. These innovations amplify the potential for misinformation as conspiracies can be "voiced" by celebrities, politicians, or public figures.
Tech Advances: AI voice cloning joins other digital threats like deepfake videos, AI-crafted writings, and generated images in shaping content. Combined, the ability to create almost indistinguishable digital clones is not a future threat; it's here, now.
Platform Response: Disinformation watchdogs report an uptick in AI voice-utilized videos, especially on platforms like TikTok. This platform and others are scrambling to label and combat this misinformation appropriately. However, even if they ban specific videos, creators are putting out content faster than can be taken down.
“While I cannot comprehend the basis of the allegations made against me, I urge everyone to remember the importance of unity, understanding and not rushing to judgments.”
As this new form of misinformation and just plain ole fun gains traction, many are concerned about its potential to skew public perceptions, especially with crucial events like the upcoming 2024 election on the horizon. J
Jack Brewster from NewsGuard commented, "Once they have the credibility of having a large following, they can dip their toe into more conspiratorial content."
Platforms like TikTok strive to innovate detection methods, but the challenge remains daunting.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK
New York-based tech firms and investors see the advent of AI as the latest opportunity to try to unseat the Bay Area as tech’s global capital.
In the last month, New York became an AI showcase, as Microsoft debuted its full Copilot product, Google delivered its annual Made By Google hardware event and LinkedIn presented its AI vision.
Dropbox, Asana, Zendesk and Cockroach Labs also held major events, researchers gathered for the Virtual Human Global Summit, and the United Nations General Assembly prompted global AI hand-wringing.
HURRY UP
On Thursday, the U.S. National Academies convened a two-day meeting on the potential for AI to change science.
AI is promising to upend the knowledge economy. It can already code computer programs, draw pictures and even take notes for doctors. But perhaps nowhere is the promise of AI closer to realization than the sciences, where technically-minded researchers are eager to bring its power to bear on problems ranging from disease to climate change.
SPACE FORCE
The U.S. Space Force has paused the use of web-based generative artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT for its workforce over data security concerns.
A memo dated Sept. 29 and addressed to Guardians, the name Space Force calls its workforce, prohibits personnel from using such AI tools including large-language models on government computers until they receive formal approval by the force's Chief Technology and Innovation Office.
UNREAD MESSAGES
Next month Microsoft Corp. will start making its AI features for Office widely available to users, which will include the ability for it to read your emails, learn your writing style and compose messages on your behalf.
This won’t just offer to fill in a few words; it can write an entire condolence note or poem to a romantic partner. Its ability to train on a person’s emails presumably will make its imitations more convincing, and unlike ChatGPT, the feature will be right there next to every email, ready to lend a helping hand.
REGTECH
Surge Ventures, a Menlo Park, California-based fintech company, Thursday announced the launch of its inaugural venture, RegVerse, which focuses on advancing regulatory technology, or regtech.
“What we’re doing with Avery is we’re taking advantage of this new software refresh cycle that we’re all in with and actually starting to build a new era of compliance tech,” Yenamandra said. “It pays to have solutions out there that are looking at ways of de-risking an organization’s risk posture, particularly around compliance risk.”
