Hey everyone!

We're now on Day 4 of our Halloween Hustle Challenge. We're starting to drill down on our daily deliverables, so it’s all about execution and accountability.

Also, we have college professors trying to figure out how to ban ChatGPT, journalists scared of being put out of a job, and the US launching a white-hat AI hackathon to protect its interests.

Quick Hits

  • Investment Increase: SoftBank invested the most in the last four quarters, with $1.8 billion in the previous three months, transitioning to an aggressive strategy focusing on AI.

  • Vision Fund Unit: Through the Vision Fund Unit, SoftBank invested $900 million, two times more than in the same quarter last year.

  • Careful Resurgence: Despite the increase, SoftBank's CFO Yoshimitsu Goto emphasized a careful approach, selectively focusing on companies within the AI trend.

  • Impact on Different Sectors: SoftBank's investments across various sectors could leverage generative AI, such as using it for route optimization in logistics.

  • Indian Market: SoftBank's renewed interest could signal hope for Indian startups, being the third-largest market for SoftBank. However, investment standards remain high.

  • Financial Performance: SoftBank's loss narrowed to $3.3 billion in the June quarter, with fair valuation of portfolio companies witnessing a marginal increase.

  • Stakes in Indian Companies: SoftBank has not actively invested in India this year but has managed stakes in companies like Paytm and Lenskart.

“We have been carefully, carefully restarting our investment activities. I hope you get the sensitivity here that we are carefully and slowly moving back to investment activities. For future growth, we would like to start having a good relationship with those companies that we hope are the future of the group.”

CFO Yoshimitsu Goto

Brief:
SoftBank Group Corp has increased its investments with a focus on AI, shifting from a defensive to an offensive strategy. The company invested $1.8 billion in the three months to June, its highest in four quarters. This investment includes $900 million through the Vision Fund Unit, more than twice as much as the same quarter last year. SoftBank's positive stance on AI and technology may indicate a return to being one of the most assertive late-stage investors after a hiatus of 15 months.

________

What’s Next:
SoftBank's emphasis on generative AI across various sectors, such as logistics and fintech, indicates they may be eyeing innovations that leverage AI for optimization and efficiency. In the Indian market, SoftBank's cautious resurgence may rejuvenate interest in late-stage investments; however, the high bar for investment emphasized by executives will likely shape the nature of these engagements.

Overall, an increased focus on AI and a careful approach to investment set the stage for SoftBank's potential strategic alignments and growth in the coming months while closely monitoring the evolving landscape of technology and AI.

The Prompt:
Copy, Paste and Customize

"I am launching my top 3 business ideas validated during the Halloween Hustle challenge - funny dad t-shirts, personalized dad planners, and a dad joke ebook.

Please outline a tactical 1-2 week schedule for executing on these ideas, breaking my time down into 3 hour daily blocks. Provide specific to-do's and action steps under each day across the two weeks, factoring in key milestones like:

Officially launching
Reaching out for collaborations and reviews

Make sure to optimize my time based on the following parameters:

My total budget is $1000
I need to move quickly and stay nimble
The schedule should follow logical sequencing of priorities
