🎭 Hollywood on Strike: AI Threatens to Replace Actors Forever

Brief: The Screen Actors Guild has joined the Writers Guild of America (WGA) on the picket lines.

The Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) has proposed a "groundbreaking AI proposal" allowing background actors to be scanned and their likenesses used indefinitely without further compensation.

Details:

• SAG-AFTRA and WGA are striking simultaneously for the first time since 1960.
  
  

• The AMPTP's AI proposal would allow background actors to be scanned and paid for one day's work, after which the company would own the scan of their image and likeness and could use it in any project they want without further consent or compensation.
  
  

• The proposal could also damage other production departments, such as costume, hair and makeup, and assistant positions, as big projects often have whole teams solely dedicated to overseeing and handling background roles.
